Originally hailing from the picturesque town of Nainital, nestled in the Himalayan foothills and named after a glacier on the Indo-Tibet border, Milam Shah's journey has led her to an exciting opportunity at Northern New Mexico College. With five years of professional experience as a visual communication designer, Milam brings a wealth of knowledge and creativity to her role.

Before joining Northern, Milam earned her Master’s in Visual Communication Design from Kent State University, Ohio. During her time there, she served as the Communication Assistant for The Office of International Student Affairs, where she facilitated 360 student partnerships through the Conversation Partners program and orchestrated 13 Res Airways cultural nights, fostering a sense of community among international students. Her proudest moments include creating a home away from home for international students and advocating for inclusivity and belongingness.

As the Communications Coordinator at Northern, Milam played an important role in the redesign of the college's website, which you are on right now. She orchestrates comprehensive social media strategies, and collaborate with various departments to promote campus activities and events. Her diverse expertise spans branding, digital media, web, and multimedia design, all approached with a keen eye for detail and a result-oriented mindset.

She is also adept in content creation, social media management, email marketing, SEO, public relations, and event management. Her soft skills, such as creative problem-solving, critical thinking, and cross-cultural communication, complement her technical abilities, making her a versatile and effective professional.

Her notable projects include designing an engaging children's book on Tibetan culture and conducting extensive research on Aipan folk art in Uttarakhand, India. Milam's dedication to her craft and community has earned her recognition as an honoree for the Sage Recognition and Celebration Program 2023 and a nomination for the Kent State University Graduate Student Advancing Equity Award.

In her free time, Milam enjoys reading, writing, learning about different cultures, and enjoying the outdoors. At 18, she was selected by a motor company to ride to the highest motorable road in the world. She feels blessed to be surrounded by the mountains again. Her affinity for diverse cultures and outdoor exploration aligns perfectly with the vibrant community of New Mexico, and she eagerly anticipates contributing to its rich tapestry while embracing new experiences like hiking through its parks, learning Spanish, and mastering snowboarding.
